Nearly 80 Arrested in Connection with Khuzestan Riots
TEHRAN (Press TV) — Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence says it has arrested 79 people in connection with recent riots and vandalism in the south-western Province of Khuzestan.
An official at the ministry said on Monday that three terrorist teams, supported by a Persian Gulf state, had received special training and played a leading role in attacking governmental centres and shooting security and police forces. However, he did not mention the name of the country but said one of the detainees in Khuzestan Province is the national of that country.
The Iranian government raised gasoline prices on November 15 in order to moderate the national consumption rate, which stands at 110 mln l/day, 40 mln above the maximum domestic capacity. In the current embargo situation facing Iran, the country is no longer able to import its gasoline, particularly from Kuwait.
