Tehran (IRNA) — Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in a telephone conversation on Wednesday reviewed the latest situation in Lebanon, Deputy Head of the Iranian president’s office for communications Alireza Moezzi said.
Moezzi twitted that during the phone talk the Iranian and French presidents exchanged views on the recent massive explosion in Lebanon.
In addition, both sides conferred on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX), he further noted.
Meanwhile, Germany’s foreign minister said on Wednesday that Lebanon needed a government that can fight corruption and enact reforms as he toured Beirut port. “It is impossible that things go on as before”, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said, adding, “The international community is ready to invest but needs securities for these investments. It is important to have a government that fights the corruption […] Many in Europe have a lot of interest for this country. They want to know that there are economic reforms and good governance.”
