TEHRAN (Tehran Times) – World powers have proposed holding a new round of talks with Iran on its nuclear program in Kazakhstan on February 25, Reuters quoted Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi as saying on Sunday.

“I have good news – I heard yesterday that the P5+1 or EU3+3 will be meeting in Kazakhstan on February 25,” he said during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference. According to Reuters, he did not make clear whether Iran had agreed to the meeting.

A spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton who represents the six major powers in the nuclear negotiations with Iran confirmed Salehi’s remarks on Sunday, Reuters reported.

However, the spokesman said that Ashton’s team was still hoping for confirmation of the date and venue from Iran’s negotiating team.

Western powers suspect Iran is seeking to develop nuclear weapons, but Iran affirms its nuclear program is entirely peaceful.

The latest round of talks between Iran and the six major powers, namely the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany, was held in Moscow on June 18 and 19, 2012.
