NUR-SULTAN / ex ASTANA (KazInform) – The government of Kazakhstan is putting forward proposals to re-impose the strict quarantine due to COVID-19 surge.

At a virtual meeting with the member of the Government on Monday, President Tokayev urged the State Commission led by the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan to put forward the proposals on the issue of returning to strict quarantine. From now on, according to the Head of State, all decisions regarding the fight against the coronavirus pandemic will be made by the said State Commission.

Among other things, the State Commission will exercise control over the allocation of key resources.

President Tokayev has also instructed the State Commission to elaborate and submit a proposal for re-imposing a strict quarantine within two days, as urgent measures must be taken to stabilize the current epidemiological situation. Kazakhstan could return to the strict lockdown that it imposed during March-May of this year.

The official toll of the coronavirus for Kazakhstan is:

  • 21,819 cases of infection
  • 188 deaths
  • 13,008 people recovered
