Kazakh and Kyrgyz Defence Ministers Sign Agreement

NUR(SULTAN / ex ASTANA (CIS press service) — On the sidelines of the official visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan, the Minister of Defence of Kazakhstan, Lieutenant General Nurlan Yermekbayev, met with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Major General Taalaibek Omuraliyev.

Yermekbaev and Omuraliev signed an agreement on military and technical assistance to Kyrgyzstan and a military cooperation plan for 2021.

During the meeting, the two countries discussed the combat training of units of the armed forces of the two countries, including the joint exercise Anirakai in Kazakhstan this year, participation in the Army International Games competitions, training activities of special operations forces, as well as issues of further interaction in the field of military education.

The sides exchanged views on topical issues of bilateral military cooperation, regional security, multilateral cooperation within the CSTO, the CIS and the SCO. “I am confident that the agreements reached during today’s meeting will serve as a basis for further practical cooperation in the sphere of defence”, the head of Kazakhstan’s defence ministry said.
