Iranian Ship Sinks in Iraqi Waters

ABADAN (IRNA) — An Iranian cargo ship named Behbahan sank in Iraqi waters, the head of Ganaveh’s maritime and port office, Nourollah As’adi, said Friday. The number of crew members was seven. One has lost his life and two others are missing.

On June 2, 2020, the cargo ship Behbahan was on its way to Umm Qasr port from the port city of Khorramshahr in south-western Iran when the incident happened, the official said. The ship was carrying construction materials and ceramics.

The cause of the incident is not known at this time.

Iran is following the case; As’adi said, adding that his country is consulting with Iraq to send a team of maritime experts to the scene.
