TEHRAN (Ruptly) — The Iranian military conducted exercises at the port city of Bandar Abbas near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, to kick off celebrations of Sacred Defence Week.

Given the age of the equipment, as well as their relatively small numbers, these exercises seem to be used more for domestic propaganda than to impress foreign powers.

Holy Defence Week is an annual commemoration of the beginning of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, which is marked by parades and military exercises.
