TEHRAN (IRNA) — Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Iraqi Minister of Electricity Majid Mahdi Hantoush reviewed ways of paying Iraq gas arrears to Iran.

Referring to contracts on gas exports which were signed by two countries in the past, Zanganeh said 24 bln m³ of gas have so far been exported to Iraq. He hailed the good relations between the two countries and hoped the Iraqi minister’s trip will help further develop relations between the two ministries. He also hoped for solving problems with regard to paying arrears.

Meanwhile, Hantoush said that Iran and Iraq enjoy good relations, adding that efforts will be made in line with promoting ties. He also stressed efforts for finding a solution for paying arrears.

  • They don’t say how much Iraq owes to Iran. Everything is hidden with this regime.

  • Excellent point. I agree, how much? Also, why the hell would Iraq buy Iranian gas? Suppose they have problems producing it themselves, why not Qatar for example?

  • Iran is in such need of money that they sell their oil and gas (and many other stuff like construction materials) at any price and any condition. I guess Iranian gas is a bargain for Iraq, it may even cost less than their own gas. Yet the Iraqis don’t pay.
