Iran: 19 Dead in Naval Exercise off Gulf of Oman
TEHRAN (IRIB via Ruptly) — At least 19 sailors, including an officer, have reportedly died and several injured during a navy exercise at the port of Jask, just off the Gulf of Oman.
The accident was allegedly the result of friendly fire, taking place during a live-fire drill. The ship that was hit was reportedly a missile-launching warship.
Footage from IRIB News show the military ship that appears to be destroyed and smoke could be seen billowing into the sky. According to local reports, the warship was destroyed by another vessel which was testing out new anti-ship technology.
