Hunger Striking Kurdish MP Supporters in Diyarbakir
ANKARA (Ruptly) — Turkish police used a water cannon against supporters of Leyla Guven, an MP for the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), as they gathered outside her home in the south-eastern Turkish city of Diyarbakir on Thursday.
Guven was released on January 25 after being imprisoned after criticising Turkey’s military operation in Syria’s predominantly Kurdish Afrin. She began a hunger strike on November 8 in protest of the prison conditions of a founding member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan, who has been jailed for 20 years.
