For Iran, Idlib Agreements Do not Apply to Terrorists
TEHRAN (IrTAG) — In a press conference held today in Tehran, Ali Asghar Haji, deputy to the Iranian President, said that the truce in Idlib does not concern terrorists.
Haji said:
During our meeting, a truce was announced in Syria. We agreed to continue our efforts to implement the Sochi Memorandum. And this memorandum does not allow terrorists to seize this opportunity[truce].
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported that the rebels were shelling the Idlib de-escalation area. Their victims were 110 government armed forces and 65 civilians. More than 240 Syrian soldiers and 100 civilians were wounded, Tass said.
On 17 September 2018, the Russian and Turkish Presidents signed a memorandum on stabilizing the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone, providing for the withdrawal of government and opposition forces and assets. However, according to the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, large terrorist groups continue to operate under Idlib and have reportedly organized attacks against government forces.
