MOSCOW (Ruptly) — Flamingos unexpectedly flew to Karakol Lake in Kazakhstan at the end of winter. The unusual phenomenon was captured by a local resident in the Mangistau region on Thursday.
The birds have settled on the edge of the lake near the nuclear power plant spillway, where the water is warmest.
Usually flamingos appear in the Karakol area in early spring, but this time the birds arrived earlier, despite the ice and snow on the lake.
Apart from pink flamingos, swans can be seen gathering on the water and ice on the lake.
According to birdwatchers’ observations, about 90 species of birds stop at the lake each year to rest from their flight or to wait out the winter.
