ANKARA (Anadolu) — Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that Turkey and Libya were committed to a 2019 maritime demarcation accord in the eastern Mediterranean, after meeting Libya’s Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh in Ankara.

Speaking following a meeting in Ankara with Libyan Prime Minister, Erdogan pledged to support to Libya’s unity, its reconstruction and its military.

Dbeibah, who has been trying to strike a balance between Turkey and Greece following Athens’ concerns over the maritime deal, also said the deal serves both Turkey and Libya’s national interests. He added however, that it was important to start a dialogue that would take into account all involved parties’ interests.

  • Things are not going very right in Turkey, economically I mean. The worse it gets, the more Erdogan distracts by trying to play on the nationalist trumpet. He’s doing exactly the same as in Iran. The Soviets used to do the same. It always leads to bankruptcy, because instead of increasing revenues, you increase expenditures.
