ATYRAU (Interfax-Kazakhstan) — JSC Embamunaigas commissioned an integrated gas treatment unit worth 35 bln tenge (319.7 tenge/$1) at the Prorva group of blocks (Zhylyoy region, Atyrau region), the company said in a press release on Monday.

Situated in the west of Kazakhstan and auround the northeast of the Caspian Sea, the Atyrau Region is situated in the oil-rich Caspian Depression. Many oil wells have been drilled in the Tengiz Field and Kashagan Field areas. An oil pipeline runs from Atyrau to Samara, Russia, where it joins the Russian pipeline system. A separate oil pipeline runs from the Tengiz field to the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiisk.

The Atyrau province holds claim to the most significant amount of oil fields, in which more than 75 fields have commercial reserves of 930 mln tonnes. The largest field in the province is Tengiz (with 781.1 mln tonnes of initial recoverable reserves). The remaining fields in the area have around 150 mln tonnes of initial recoverable reserves. More than half of those are concentrated in two fields: Korolevskoye (55.1 mln tonnes) and Kenbai (30.9 mln tonnes).
