Egypt Trusts the Sudanese Army and Supports the People’s Choices
CAIRO (Al Jazeera) — In the first Arab reaction to the events in Sudan following the army’s statement announcing the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir, Egypt announced its full support for the choices of the Sudanese people and its willingness to shape the country’s future and what will be agreed at this important stage.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release:
Egypt is following closely and with great interest the ongoing and accelerating developments in sister Sudan at this crucial moment in its modern history.
The declaration affirmed that Egypt fully supports the free choice of the Sudanese people and their willingness to shape the future of their country, as well as the convictions of the Sudanese people at this important juncture, based on Egypt’s firm position on full respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and national decision.
Egypt expressed:
[…] its full confidence in the ability of the brotherly Sudanese people and their loyal army to overcome this critical stage and its challenges in order to realize aspirations and aspirations in the search for stability, prosperity and development.
Egypt also called on the international community to “support the choices of the Sudanese people and what will be agreed upon at this crucial historical juncture.”
