Clashes Erupt in Lahore as Maryam Sharif Appears for Hearing
LAHORE (Ruptly) — Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, arrived for a hearing over corruption allegations at the National Accountability Bureau’s offices in Lahore on Tuesday.
Maryam Nawaz, alleged on Twitter that police had attacked her car earlier in the day. “Police attacking my car. Imagine if it were not a bullet proof vehicle. Shame”, the tweet reads.
Tear gas was seen billowing in the vicinity of the building prior to her arrival as Maryam Nawaz supporters reportedly clashed with security forces. Dozens of protesters were detained by police during the confrontations.
According to reports, Nawaz was not able to deliver her testimony at the National Accountability Bureau due to the deteriorated security situation.
