Asma al-Assad Holds First TV Interview after Defeating Breast Cancer
DAMASCUS (Syrian Presidency via Ruptly) — The First Lady of Syria Asma al-Assad revealed that she was cancer-free during an interview published by the Syrian Presidency in Damascus on Saturday, just one year after it was announced that she started receiving a treatment for a malignant breast tumour.
“My journey is over, with all its pain, weariness, its negative and even positive aspects. Thank God it’s over”, said al-Assad, who started the treatment on August 8, 2018.
Forty-three-year-old Asma al-Assad married al-Assad in 2000, shortly after he became president. Born and raised in the UK, the dual British-Syrian national was an investment banker before she became First Lady of Syria.
