NUR-SULTAN / ex ASTANA (NBK press service) — The National Bank of Kazakhstan is terminating the circulation period of 500 tenge notes of the 2006 model from 10 June this year.
After 10 June 2020, the 500 tenge banknotes issued in 2006 will no longer be legal tender. At the same time, 500 tenge banknotes issued in 2017 will be in circulation. Up to and including this date, the old banknotes will be legal tender and must be accepted throughout the Republic of Kazakhstan for all types of payments and transfers.
After 10 June 2020, there will be several exchange periods:
- Within 12 months, second-tier banks will accept them and exchange them for valid banknotes;
- After this 12-month period, the branches of the National Bank will, for a further period of three years, exchange old banknotes for new model ones.
