BISHKEK (24.kg) — The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan will consider the criminal case against ex-Prosecutor General Aida Salyanova concerning the extension of Alexey Eliseev’s lawyer’s license under new circumstances.
As lawyer Rabiga Sadykova told the 24.kg news agency, according to the new edition of the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure, the charge brought against Aida Salyanova under the article on the abuse of official position has been decriminalized. In other words, this is a matter of misconduct and not a crime, and should be punishable by a fine and not by imprisonment.
“If the court accepts the arguments of the defense, then the charge against Salyanova will be dropped and the case dismissed due to the lack of a corpse”, Rabiga Sadykova explained.
The case is scheduled for consideration by the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic tomorrow, 5 September.
The court verdict found Aida Salyanova guilty of abuse of power. According to the prosecution, as Minister of Justice in 2010, she illegally renewed Alexey Eliseev’s lawyer’s license. Aida Salyanova was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment with a suspended sentence to execute the court’s decision for 12 years until her youngest daughter reached the age of 14.
In addition, another criminal case was opened against Aida Salyanova in connection with an investigation into the illegal release of Aziz Batukaev.
