BISHKEK (24.kg) – Following the toughening of the regulations for migrants in Russia, representative office of the State Migration Service of Kyrgyzstan in Moscow sent letters to the relevant authorities of Russia with a request to clarify the new rules of migration registration. After receiving the answer, an awareness-raising campaign among the Kyrgyz citizens in the Russian Federation will begin.

According to the migration service, from now on, foreigners coming to Russia in search of earnings will have to register exclusively at the place of residence. Previously, employers had the right to register the migrants at the legal address of an enterprise.

The new rules will apply also to the citizens of Kyrgyzstan. If migrants live in bungalows at a construction site, they need to register there. In Moscow and the Moscow Oblast, apartment owners will not longer be able to temporarily register the foreigners.

A penalty from administrative measures to deportation is provided for violation of migration legislation in the Russian Federation.

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, it has become one of the main destinations for immigration in the world. According to figures from the United Nations 2015 international migration report, the country is tied with Germany for the second spot in terms of the number of migrants living within its borders, with the United States at the top of the list. About 650,000 Kyrgyz citizens work in Russia. About 70,000 Kyrgyz citizens are blacklisted and are temporarily prohibited from entering Russia.
