BISHKEK – According to State Migration Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyrgyz workers in Russia most often complain about illegal non-payment of their wages.

The Kyrgyz citizens most often apply to the representative office of the State Migration Service in Russia on issues of temporary registration, withdrawal from the list temporarily banning the entry into the territory of the Russian Federation, not signing of the employment contract by employers and non-payment of wages.

For the first six months of 2018, Kyrgyz citizens, who applied on non-payment of wages issues, received 36.7 mln rubles for a total of 433 appeals.

There are cases when employers legally withhold wages for violation of the work schedule (absence from work, for coming late, material damage). Cases on those employers who refused to voluntarily pay off wage arrears, are sent to the Investigative Committee.

Every year, tens of thousands leave the republics of Kyrgyzstan to find seasonal employment in Russia’s main cities. Many stay for years; others never return home, but their remittances form an important share of their country’s economy. Money sent back home by migrants is equivalent of ⅓ of Kyrgyzstan’s GDP.
