BISHKEK (Satrapia) — According to unofficial reports, former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev voluntarily surrendered to the authorities.

According to a source, Atambayev was fleeing the village of Koy-Tash. According to unofficial reports, Farid Niyazov and Kunduz Zholdubaeva were at his side. There is no official confirmation of this information yet.

There are approximately 500 Special Forces officers in the territory of the residence and in the house of the former President.

The special operation to arrest Almazbek Atambayev began on 7 August at around 9PM. Supporters of the former president have deployed active armed resistance. During the clashes, more than 40 people were injured and taken to hospitals. An officer from Spetsnaz died from a gunshot wound. The head of the main internal affairs department of the Chui region remains in serious condition.

President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov stressed “if Atambaev was a witness yesterday in criminal cases, he has now become a suspect in a serious crime.”

It should be recalled that Jogorku Kenesh had deprived Almazbek Atambayev of the status of former president and immunity on 27 June. The decision was based on the conclusion of the Deputy Commission, which had presented six charges to Atambaev, five of which were supported by the Prosecutor General. Atambayev is charged with illegal enrichment, participation in the illegal release of the criminal authority Aziz Batukaev, corruption in the case of the Bishkek HPP and others.

Atambaev ignored the interrogation calls on three occasions and did not acknowledge any of the claims brought against him and stated that he intended to defend himself in an attempt to retain him. “I have a personal weapon”, said Atambayev.
