BISHKEK (KirTAG) — Elections of the mayor of the capital of Kyrgyzstan will be held on August 8, the Central Election Commission on Elections and Referendums of the Kyrgyz Republic declared.
“The election of the mayor of Bishkek is scheduled for August 8. This decision was taken at the meeting of the CEC today”, the Central Election Commission informed. Albek Ibraimov was relieved of his post by the Prime Minister Muhammadkal Abylgaziev “in connection with the decision of the Bishkek city kenesh on the expression of mistrust.”
On July 13, Bishkek City Council unanimously voted no confidence in Mayor Albek Ibraimov. On July 19, Prime Minister signed an order to dismiss Ibraimov. On the same day, the ex-mayor was arrested by the State National Security Committee. By order of the court, Albek Ibraimov was taken into custody in the GKNB pre-trial detention facility until August 29. He is accused of corruption and fraud.
Voting will take place in the building of the City Hall from 9:00 to 12:00.
