Additional $15.1 mln to Be Allocated for Bishkek-Naryn-Torugart Road

Bishkek (24.kg news agency) – The Kyrgyz Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance today approved an agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for an additional $15.1 mln allocated for the reconstruction of Bishkek-Naryn-Torugart road.

The Bishkek-Torugart highway is part of the CAREC Transport Corridor 1 project. ADB has allocated $55 mln for the rehabilitation of the section from 479th to 539th kilometre. Construction work began in 2013.

“Additional work relating mainly to increase the height of the embankment subgrade and improve the drainage system. This will reduce the risk of cracking in the asphalt concrete pavement during frosts. The loan amount is $10.8 mln grant – $4.3 mln. Kyrgyzstan has received a loan for 32 years under 1.5% per annum with a grace period of 8 years. In this case, the government’s contribution will be $2.9 mln”, the Ministry of Transport declared.
